Depot Dispatch newspaper
I met Joan Koebel, the editor of the Depot Dispatch, while serving at Sweet Basil. We instantly hit it off and realized we complemented each other perfectly: she was overwhelmed at the newspaper and needed a reliable partner, and I was looking for journalism experience. Initially I was hired to work about five hours per week, but my role quickly expanded and soon I was taking on tasks such as designing advertisements, creating the cover page for several issues, and completely creating the Depot Dispatch Express, an annual advertising publication that acts as a business guide for locals and tourists. The aspects I most enjoyed about the job were meeting successful local business owners, developing my creativity in designing pages, and using my critical thinking skills on a regular basis.
